Transtar Industries told the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry that it will permanently close its McKees Rocks plant, resulting in 136 layoffs. The plant is expected to close by the end of October. Work done there will be transferred to plants in Tennessee and Michigan. The company's sales office on Hamilton Avenue will not be affected.

Transtar Industries, Inc., owned by Friedman Fleischer & Lowe LLC, is exploring a sale that could fetch $1 billion including debt, Reuters reported citing people familiar with the matter. Bank of America Corporation (NYSE:BAC) and Harris Williams LLC are believed to be hired for an auction of Transtar Industries, Inc. Friedman Fleischer & Lowe LLC, Transtar Industries, Inc. and Bank of America Corporation declined to comment. A Harris Williams LLC spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment.

Transtar Industries, Inc. announced that Timothy E. Bowes will join Transtar as Chief Executive Officer. Bob Keegan, who acted as interim CEO during the search, will remain as Executive Chairman of Transtar. Bowes joins from Meritor Inc., where he worked the last seven years and most recently served as an Executive Officer and President of Meritor's Commercial Truck and Industrial business unit.
