LanguageLine Solutions Launches LangaugeU(C) -- Video Interpreting over Mobile Devices to Provide Cost-Effective Alternative to Onsite Interpreting
Jun 17 13
LanguageLine Solutions officially launched LangaugeU(c) -- a video remote interpreting (VRI) solution offering Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese and American Sign Language (ASL), with other languages being added continuously. The solution also supports an additional 200 spoken languages with audio only on any VRI enabled device from PC's, Mac's, iPads, Android tablets and smartphones to existing video conferencing endpoints. The service is simple for anyone to use. Doctors and emergency room staff, bankers, insurance adjusters, legal professionals, public safety personnel and many others sign up and download the LangaugeU(c) app, which uses an encrypted network connection to support HIPAA compliance. At the press of a button, a live interpreter is face-to-face with the user and the deaf and hard of hearing or limited English speaker. There has been an immediate and overwhelmingly positive response from LanguageU(c) pilot projects. Alejandra Coronel is the Language Service Supervisor for Presence Covenant Medical Center in Champaign-Urbana, Ill., and reports that everyone from administrators to healthcare professionals at the hospital want to use this new visual interpretation service. Video remote interpreting expands LanguageLine Solutions' suite of solutions which includes over-the-phone interpreting (OPI), Personal Interpreter (a pay-as-you-go service great for travelers and small businesses), translation and localization services and language access consulting. LanguageLine also operates LanguageLine Academy(SM) testing, training and language proficiency. The U.S. Census reported that the number of limited English proficient individuals grew by 80% between 1990 and 2010 and is expected to continue growing, fueling the demand for even more access to interpreters.
