Nevro Corp. Selects Silver Peak to Accelerate Data Transfer to and from VMware's vCloud(R) Air(TM) Platform
Aug 26 14
Silver Peak announced that Nevro Corp. has selected Silver Peak to accelerate data transfer to and from VMware's vCloud(R) Air(TM) platform. With employees in Europe and the United States, Nevro Corp. was looking for a robust, flexible, accessible cloud solution that could scale with the business. It also needed a secure platform that could meet the stringent regulatory requirements for its implantable medical device and associated patient and study data. Nevro selected the VMware vCloud(R) Air(TM) platform based on its compatibility with existing VMware(R) solutions. With vCloud Air in place, Nevro turned to Silver Peak to maximize performance. Following a simple Silver Peak integration, Nevro achieved up to a 25x improvement in transfer speeds, making it possible for Nevro to quickly migrate its tertiary active directory, Clinical Data Management System (CDMS), distribution and file servers to the cloud, as well as a legacy financial system and two programmer databases.
IMServ Improves Data Protection and Lowers Disaster Recovery Costs with Silver Peak
May 19 14
Silver Peak has been selected by IMServ to help transfer growing volumes of data between its data center in Milton Keynes and its disaster recovery (DR) site 50 miles away. Covering more than 400 servers and around 250 users, IMServ manages highly time critical secure customer data and relies heavily on high network performance, stability, and availability. By deploying Silver Peak's virtual data acceleration appliances, IMServ has been able to improve its DR strategy without the upfront investment of a costly bandwidth upgrade. Faced with a static infrastructure, IMServ's technical team was finding it difficult to cope with the exponential growth of current and historic data it was starting to manage. IMServ's data usage began to exceed its 50 megabit-per-second (Mbps) network bandwidth allowance, resulting in escalating costs. IMServ was subsequently under growing pressure to optimize its existing IT infrastructure in a way that would improve data delivery, increase flexibility and reduce expenditure. IMServ first considered upgrading to a larger wide area network (WAN) link, however the location of the DR site along with the large upfront payment needed became a problem. Subsequently, IMServ turned to leading IT solutions reseller, Future Generations Solutions (FGGL), who recommended maximizing the existing WAN efficiency between both sites. Having considered other known WAN optimization providers, IMServ chose to deploy Silver Peak for its high performance, simple deployment and flexible pricing model. Since deploying Silver Peak's WAN optimization software, IMServ has transformed its DR strategy. Outages and planned maintenance work can be easily managed without any downtime, and the company has seen data availability increase, particularly with some of the migrations' on-the-fly elements of virtualization.
Silver Peak Expands Suite of Virtual Data Replication Software for Storage Professionals
Apr 16 14
Silver Peak announced the addition of a new replication accelerator to its Velocity Replication Acceleration (VRX) suite of software products. The new accelerator, VRX-6, allows storage professionals using a 300 Mbps WAN to accelerate their offsite data replication workloads up to 20x (on average) over any distance. The Silver Peak VRX software products were developed using Silver Peak's Virtual Acceleration Open Architecture (VXOA), which overcomes network distance, congestion and capacity challenges that limit data mobility over distance. VRX-6 software deploys seamlessly into any replication environment and runs on all standard hypervisors, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and KVM. It is proven with all asynchronous IP-based replication solutions from Dell, EMC(R), Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), NetApp(R) and others. The new VRX-6 completes the VRX series of products, which offer replication capacity of up to 2 terabytes-per-hour (TB/hr):VRX-2 - 20 Mbps, averaging 50 GB/hr of replication traffic, VRX-4 - 100 Mbps, averaging 250 GB/hr of replication traffic, VRX-6 - 300 Mbps, averaging 750 GB/hr of replication traffic and VRX-8 - 1 Gbps, averaging 2 TB/hr of replication traffic. Quick and Easy Set-up for Storage Professionals: With Silver Peak VRX software, storage professionals can accelerate their replication traffic in under 20 minutes. No special networking expertise is required. The storage administrator downloads the desired VRX software from the Silver Peak marketplace, installs the software in the same locations as the source and target devices on the hypervisor of their choice, then redirects traffic to the VRX from the source and target storage devices with a few simple commands.
