Alien Technology Unveils Two New UHF Passive RFID Tags
Apr 16 14
Alien Technology has unveiled Wonder Dog ALN-9768 and Higgs4 IC, the company's new ultra high frequency, or UHF, passive radio frequency identification, or RFID, tags. The Wonder Dog ALN-9768 is a high-performance, no compromise tag where size (3.3 x 0.9" /86 x 23mm) is less of an issue than the desire for optimal read sensitivity with high levels of backscatter. At the other extreme, Alien also announced a Higgs4 IC near-field tag (0.47 x 0.35" /12 x 9mm) that targets applications requiring short read distances and where space is constrained. The Wonder Dog is truly a general purpose, high-performance inlay. While this tag can be used on most surfaces, the tag provides unusually good read and write performance for a standard thickness inlay when mounted close to radio frequency (RF) reflective surfaces such as metals.
Alien Technology(R) Launches European Commercial 4-Port Fixed UHF Reader for Volume RFID Applications
Apr 8 14
Alien Technology introduced the Alien(R) ALR-9680-EMA commercial-grade UHF RFID reader that provides European customers enterprise grade 4-port flexibility with Alien's reader "intelligence," ease-of-use and robustness. Housed in a slim-height metal chassis, the rugged reader is built to survive in rough environments that may also require low height clearance. Many ALR-9680 features are geared to lowering the cost of set-up and system implementation, including: 4 monostatic-antenna ports that lend themselves to low-cost antenna systems; Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) that takes power from any existing ethernet infrastructure, eliminating the need for external power supplies; and Autonomous mode of operation that reduces network traffic and minimizes central processing, helping make large roll-outs more scalable. The ALR-9680 is suitable for small, cost-sensitive roll-outs or, due to the on-reader processing, the reader can be used in large-scale implementations seeking to minimize the amount of central processing consumed by each reader. This local-processing allows for increased scalability and reduced central compute infrastructure and cost. The inclusion of PoE with this form-factor also allows the reader to be used in tight areas with no power supply.
Alien Technology Introduces Miniature, Long-Range Inlay for Jewelry and Cosmetics Tagging
Jan 9 14
Alien Technology, introduced Glint(TM) ALN-9715, a small footprint 27 millimeters (mm) x 10mm (1.06 x 0.38) Higgs(TM) 4 IC-based tag for jewelry, cosmetics and other small or metallic-coated products. Despite its diminutive size, the Glint tag includes a long-range UHF antenna enabling tag interrogation up to 3 feet (1 meter) away. This highly compact antenna is unusually narrow and dense, enabling long-range access when affixed above metallic coated plastic surfaces. The Higgs 4 IC provides optional pre-encoded serialization and additional user memory that many competitive solutions lack. The Glint tag is available for volume ordering and will be exhibited at RFID Journal LIVE April 8-10, 2014, in Orlando, Fla., at the Alien Booth (#620).
