YouTube, LLC Key Developments
MLB Advanced Media, L.P. and YouTube announced that they're teaming up to offer fans an expanded array of licensed Major League Baseball video content on the official MLB.com YouTube channel. This MLB.com YouTube channel will include highlight clips from every MLB game in 2013 as well as thousands of hours from MLBAM's archives. In-season highlights will be available approximately two days after the respective games have been completed. Videos from MLB.com's Baseball's Best Moments library also will be included. MLBAM also will live stream two live games daily during the regular season, available for free and accessible exclusively outside of its core live video distribution territories: North America, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.
Federal judge has dismissed Viacom's $1 billion copyright lawsuit against YouTube, LLC for the second time in three years, saying that the online video site doesn't have to police itself as long as it removes infringing videos when copyright owners give notice. U.S. District Court Judge Louis Stanton in New York ruled that Viacom never proved YouTube was aware of thousands of videos Viacom said were stolen from its TV networks. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals returned the case to the district court for re-evaluation, saying a jury might conclude YouTube was aware it was hosting pirated material.
The National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority filed an appeal on a court ruling that obliges it to block the video-sharing website 'YouTube' for 30 days in Egypt for broadcasting a film deprecating Prophet Muhammad of Islam. The appeal was filed because the ruling was impossible to implement. Blocking YouTube will affect 'Google', it said, adding that Egypt is ranked the second in the Middle East in using the search engine. The administrative court ordered the government to block YouTube for 30 days. The website kept the offensive video 'Innocence of Muslims' online despite the outrage it caused among Muslims around the world, the court said.
