Isola's RF-Substrate Conversion Program Gains Momentum in Partnership with InnoSenT and KSG Leiterplatten
Aug 19 14
Isola Group S.a r.l. announced a major qualification win in partnership with KSG Leiterplatten GmbH and InnoSenT GmbH. The joint conversion project among the three companies successfully tailored the dielectric properties of Isola's high-performance I-Tera(r) MT laminate material to match the properties of an incumbent product. Isola's dielectric substrates will now be used on existing volume products produced by InnoSenT, and the printed circuit boards will be manufactured by KSG. The conversion to Isola's materials provides InnoSenT with higher performance material without modifying the metallization of the PCB. Test results show that I-Tera MT delivers a lower insertion loss thereby increasing the safety margin of the system design. Isola's RF-engineering experts used an extensive suite of electronic design automation tools in the conversion initiative with InnoSenT and KSG, including simulation models of the critical test structures used to characterize the properties of PCBs. These simulations and analyses were able to target the required dielectric constant (Dk) of I-Tera MT. Isola's R&D was then able to engineer the dielectric properties of I-Tera MT to match the desired Dk at the operating frequency. Working closely with the technical teams at KSG and InnoSenT, Isola's RF-engineering experts and R&D staff completed the task in only a few days. Subsequently, Isola's R&D staff analyzed the tailored I-Tera MT materials using multiple techniques to verify and validate the desired Dk. I-Tera MT materials are currently in scale-up for production.
Isola Group S.a r.l. Announces Conversion Service in the Wake of Global Shortages of RF Substrates
Jul 17 14
Isola Group S.a r.l. announced that its technical staff would offer a conversion service for PCB fabricators of radio frequency (RF) and millimeter-wave applications. This global 24-hour design review service will enable PCB fabricators to quickly and cost-effectively transition their current RF substrates to Isola's RF products and eliminate the production backlogs caused by the current shortages of RF substrates. As part of Isola's design review, the company's technical staff will respond to customer requests within 24 hours of the inquiry and work to provide on a turnkey basis all of the calculations, testing, characterizations and material recommendations to assist PCB fabricators and OEMs to convert to Isola's materials. This service will also address some of the commonly held misperceptions about the difficulties of migrating from a currently used material to an Isola material, including the cost of ownership related to material processing, the equivalency of materials available in the market, concerns about thermal conductivity and heat dissipation and PCB fabricator support and credentials.
Isola Group S.à r.l Announces the Relocation of it's Asia-Pacific Technology Center to Taiwan
Jul 10 14
Isola Group S.à r.l announced the relocation of it's Asia-Pacific Technology Center from Singapore to a new facility located in Yangmei, Taiwan. The new Technology Center in Taiwan is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2014. The new Taiwan Technology Center, which will support the increased demand for Isola's high-speed digital materials and RF/microwave and millimeter wave substrates in the Asia-Pacific region, will be co-located with the company's Advanced Engineered Dielectrics Manufacturing Center in Yangmei, Taiwan. Isola's Technology Centers conduct electrical, thermal and mechanical characterizations of resin components and laminate materials used in the production of printed circuit boards, utilizing advanced test equipment to ensure accurate results in a rapid-response environment. The Technology Centers support not only the company's R&D and manufacturing activities, but also extends their analytical services to Isola's customers, relieving the engineering teams at PCB fabricators, as well as the OEMs they serve, from expensive in-house testing. Isola is the only laminate materials supplier to offer such advanced testing capabilities to the electronics industry.
