Gigamon Inc. Key Developments

University of Wisconsin-Madison Selects Gigamon's Visibility Fabric

Gigamon announced that the University of Wisconsin-Madison has selected Gigamon's Visibility Fabric to provide pervasive visibility in order to manage and secure their high speed, big data environment. The University of Wisconsin-Madison published an RFP detailing the institution's need to monitor 100% of the Internet traffic on their perimeter 100Gb link and additional 10G links as well as their internal network for intrusion detection and troubleshooting. The Gigamon Visibility Fabric was selected as the clear winner in the evaluation. The UW-Madison did not have the technology to monitor a 100Gb link and that is why they put out an RFP. As a result of the RFP, the UW-Madison selected Gigamon's 100Gb optical taps and a Visibility Fabric solution based on the GigaVUE-HD4 node with patented Flow Mapping(R) to provide intelligent aggregation and replication of traffic flows to their security and performance monitoring tools.

Gigamon Appoints Shehzad Merchant as Chief Strategy Officer

Gigamon announced that Shehzad Merchant has joined the company as Chief Strategy Officer. Merchant will be focused on developing a strategic path for the continued evolution of the company's Visibility Fabric architecture in this fast-paced market. Merchant joins Gigamon from Extreme Networks. Prior to joining Gigamon, Merchant served as the CTO at Extreme Networks and prior to that as the co-founder and VP of Products at Polytime Systems. Merchant has also held various senior architectural and research roles at Allied Telesyn, Nevis Networks and SRI.

Gigamon Announces the Development of an Advancement That Transforms Big Data into Manageable Data for Mobile Carriers

Gigamon announced the development of an advancement that transforms Big Data into manageable data for mobile carriers. This method is intended to facilitate a cost-effective solution for connecting single or multiple 40Gb and 100Gb pipes to 10Gb and 1Gb analytic tools. This technology under development will be able to take the network traffic flowing through the large pipes, and control the volume of data being forwarded to the tools. This breakthrough process will faithfully reproduce the data on a smaller scale, retaining its stateful condition with session awareness. Single tools can then effectively process throughput of what was originally 100Gb or 40Gb traffic flows. This concept and Gigamon's existing features to address Big Data are currently on show at Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona, Spain. When commercially available, this new innovation will work in tandem with Gigamon's Flow Mapping(R) and GigaSMART(R) applications technologies. Flow Mapping enables advanced filtering of individual network traffic packets that are forwarded according to a set of user-defined rules that are optimized to provide customers with unique granularity and scalability. GigaSMART applications modify, manipulate, transform and transport packets, along with the information they carry, in order to enhance and improve the value of the network traffic before delivering it to the appropriate management, monitoring and security tools. For the first time, the industry as a whole has a real way to tackle the issues associated with Big Data. Through this new concept the company hope to alleviate much of the data running through 40Gb and 100Gb pipes, allowing it to fit into smaller existing pipes and saving the carrier from drowning under the massive flow of data and resulting greater tooling costs.
