In September 1997, Beacon Properties Corporation entered into an agreement and plan of merger with Equity Office Properties Trust (EOP), pursuant to which Beacon would be merged into EOP. Beacon Properties Corporation specialized in the property ownership, management, leasing, design, and development; and owned 123 properties totaling approximately 20.7 million square feet, as of September 30,1997. The company elected to be taxed as a real estate investment trust under the Internal Revenue Code.
