Haier Group to Develop Ozmo-Based Wi-Fi Direct Peripherals for Its New Line of Smart TVs
Aug 30 12
Ozmo, Inc. announced that Haier Group will develop Ozmo-based Wi-Fi direct peripherals for its new line of Smart TVs. The wireless Wi-Fi accessories for Haier's 2013 Smart TV models will likely include a remote control, a microphone, and a variety of other innovative human interface products. Ozmo's Wi-Fi Direct technology, unlike other RF technologies, utilizes the Wi-Fi adapter already included in the TV, set-top box, Blu-Ray, PC or mobile device, eliminating the need to add another RF module to the platform. This allows the platform developer to avoid costly hardware and software complications associated with Bluetooth, RF4CE, or other proprietary short-range RF technologies. Wi-Fi PAN from Ozmo allows this without compromising cost, latency, battery life or quality of the consumer experience. Wi-Fi Direct is the software-based extension of standard Wi-Fi, which allows Wi-Fi devices to communicate directly without the need for an access point or router. The Wi-Fi adapter in the TV can simultaneously provide an Internet connection and also multiple Wi-Fi Direct connections to peripherals such as a TV remote or microphone. For Smart TV developers, Wi-Fi technology, especially as it is embodied in the OZMO2000 chip, is the ideal solution for any short-range peripheral due to its support of a ubiquitous standard and delivery of extremely high bit-rates.
Universal Electronics Inc. Announces Partnership with Ozmo, Inc. to Bring New Generation of Connected Remotes to Market
Jan 9 12
Universal Electronics Inc. announced that it has partnered with Ozmo, Inc. to make available the company's ultra-low power, low-cost Wi-Fi Direct technologies in UEI's connected remote control platforms. The company also reported that in present connected homes, Wi-Fi has become the ubiquitous standard for Internet connectivity and is the de-facto connectivity solution across mobile, tablet, consumer electronics, and entertainment delivery platforms. A new industry standard, Wi-Fi Direct, developed and certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance is further expanding the usability of Wi-Fi, especially as it offers backward compatibility with existing 802.11 a/g/n Wi-Fi Certified devices in the market. Wi-Fi Direct is gaining rapid adoption highlighted by a range of recent announcements such as native support in operating systems including Google's Android 4.0 & Microsoft Windows 8, as well as inclusion of Wi-Fi Direct in DLNA interoperability guidelines. Wi-Fi Direct creates a much more powerful Wi-Fi solution, as it enables the premier wireless networking standard to add point-to-point capability, with no need for a Wi-Fi access point. Because Wi-Fi Direct is a software add-on, there is no additional cost to the platform manufacturers over basic Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi Direct, with high throughput and compatibility with a wide array of devices, provides a reliable and future-proof platform for innovative new content control and distribution applications within the home. Through this relationship, Universal Electronics Inc. and Ozmo, Inc. plan to bring to market an end-to-end solution that leverages existing integrated Wi-Fi radios in connected devices bundled with a highly integrated, ultra-low-power, low-cost Wi-Fi Direct remote control that delivers reliable, interference-free performance and a long battery life.
