Marathon Patent Group Inc. announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Sampo IP, LLC, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Blackboard and Salesforce.com, civil action case number 2:13CV601, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Sampo is asserting infringement related to U.S. Patent numbers 6,772,229, 6,161,149 and 8,015,495, each entitled Centrifugal Communication and Collaboration Method. The lawsuit alleges that the Defendants have infringed, and continue to infringe, the claims of the patents in suit by using the accused communications systems and methods covered by the claims of the asserted patents.

Blackboard Inc. announced the release of an integrated virtual classroom that allows instructors to create and use Web conferencing tools such as video recording, instant messaging and voice discussion boards, all seamlessly integrated into Blackboard Learn(TM), the company's flagship learning management system (LMS). By leveraging tools within Blackboard Collaborate(TM), the leading online collaboration platform built for education, the virtual classroom will have the same native look and feel as the core, built-in platform features. Instructors can use the integrated Web conferencing tools to hold online office hours and connect with students that need extra help. Faculty can record classes for students who were unable to attend or pre-record class materials when taking a 'flipped classroom' teaching approach. Integrated mobile applications also enable students and instructors to join live sessions and access all course content, including recordings, from their iPhone(R), iPad(R), or Android(TM) device, including Kindle Fire(TM) HD devices.

Blackboard Inc. announced a completely redesigned mobile learning app following extensive analysis of how students are using mobile devices for education. The update to the mobile version of Blackboard Learn(TM), the company's flagship learning management system (LMS), focuses on simplifying content consumption which allows for a more engaging user experience and greater productivity. The redesign marks the latest step in the company's efforts to increase its investment in core products, drive greater industry innovation, and integrate its market-leading portfolio to power a comprehensive teaching and learning environment that goes beyond the traditional learning management system. The app's new user interface allows for easier consumption, navigation, prioritization and customization of content. Students can assign color labels to courses and content, making it intuitive to identify course materials, and rename, reorder and hide courses from view. The company also announced a number of other improvements to Blackboard Learn including an improved design and workflow for Inline Assignment Grading and Test IP Address Filtering that would require students to be in a specified physical location, such as a proctored computer lab, in order to take a test within the platform.
