Tata Steel Limited (BSE:500470) is believed to have appointed investment bakers to carry out valuation of some European assets and may be considering to sell UK and Netherlands assets of Corus Group Limited. Tata Steel will retain Corus as a 100% subsidiary. Tata Steel shares were trading down by 1.24% at INR 311.4 on May 21, 2013.

Tata Steel Limited is seeking to sell its U.K. assets, two people with knowledge of the matter said. According to people, selling its U.K. units, part of takeover of Corus Group Limited, would help Tata cut debt, the people said, asking not to be identified as the information is private. Also, another person added that it is also considering selling part of its Australian operations, but the people didn’t specify which of the assets Tata Steel may sell. Charudatta Deshpande, Spokesman for Tata Steel, declined to comment to Bloomberg on a potential sale. Tata Steel fell 0.5% to INR 304.4.
