Filemaker, Inc. Announces Executive Changes

FileMaker, Inc. announced the promotion of Frank Lu to vice president of engineering, to lead the company's engineering teams and set the direction for the software development platform. He replaces Simon Thornhill, who retires at the end of next month. FileMaker has named Frank Lu, Vice President of Engineering. Lu has served for the last eight years as senior director leading R&D for the FileMaker Platform, which includes FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Go for iPad and iPhone, FileMaker Pro Advanced and FileMaker Server. In total, he has been with FileMaker for more than 14 years. He came to FileMaker from Siebel/Oracle, where he worked as technical manager and director of engineering for eight years on system structure to support high-performance and high-scalability CRM applications.

FileMaker, Inc. announced the immediate availability of FileMaker Training Series: Advanced for FileMaker 13, low cost, in-depth training materials that help developers create FileMaker solutions that run on iPad, iPhone, Windows, Mac and the web. FileMaker Training Series: Advanced completes the company's official self-paced training curriculum for the recently announced FileMaker 13 Platform. FileMaker Training Series: Advanced provides in-depth coverage of development practices and techniques to help customers master the essentials of FileMaker 13 solution development. The training series is mainly for intermediate to advanced FileMaker developers, but it will also be useful to anyone who creates solutions and for those developers preparing to become a FileMaker 13 Certified Developer. The FileMaker Training Series: Advanced has been completely restructured and formatted for improved ease of use. It incorporates callout tips for developing solutions to use on FileMaker Go for iPad and iPhone and on FileMaker WebDirect in a web browser. The series also comes with an entire module dedicated to interface design and includes tips on getting the most out of new features in FileMaker 13 such as styles and themes, new scripts, container field enhancements, database encryption and more. FileMaker Launches FileMaker 13 Platform

FileMaker, Inc. unveiled the next-generation platform for business productivity: FileMaker 13. The new software makes it even faster and easier than ever for teams to create gorgeous, tailored business solutions for iPad, iPhone, Windows, Mac and the web that deliver significant productivity gains. FileMaker 13 includes more than 50 new features. Chief among them are: FileMaker WebDirect, an entirely new, HTML5 browser-based technology that allows teams to create and deploy desktop-style solutions in a web browser with no programming skills required. Tools to create amazing iPad and iPhone solutions that support even more iOS behaviors, including slide controls, popovers and the ability to scan records using gestures. iPad and iPhone layouts can now be created in one step; and iOS solutions can include single-click capture of bar codes using on-device cameras and custom keyboards that speed data entry. Major improvements to design capabilities, including support for shareable custom themes and styles, and the ability to drag and drop data fields onto design layouts. More robust security, with AES 256-bit encryption that locks down data no matter where it lives -- on iPad, iPhone, desktop or server. FileMaker Pro 13 Advanced is used to enable encryption. Dozens of new enhancements for solution developers, from the ability to hide or display objects on a screen based on business logic to easier integration with web applications. Simplified server administration, including an entirely new HTML5 administrative console in FileMaker Server 13 for managing business solutions from anywhere. All FileMaker 13 Platform software is available immediately. Monthly prices start at $9 for FileMaker Pro; $15 for FileMaker Pro Advanced, and $29 for FileMaker Server under the FileMaker Annual Volume License Agreement, which is billed annually (minimum quantities apply). Traditional software licenses are also available starting at $329 for new FileMaker Pro 13 licenses and $179 for FileMaker Pro 13 upgrades.
