SMARTRAC N.V. Key Developments
Smartrac Introduces New NTAG213 NFC Tags Offering Features Like NFC Forum N-Mark Compatibility and UID Mirror Functionality
Feb 25 14
SMARTRAC is launching its new NTAG213 product line: BullsEye, Midas and Circus NTAG213 NFC tags come with 144 bytes user memory with password protection, are compatible with NFC Forum Type 2 Tags and ISO/IEC14443 Type A standards and offer UID mirror functionality. Moreover, BullsEye tags come with etched NFC Forum N-Mark. Sharing their memory structure and feature set, SMARTRAC's new NTAG213 products will replace the highly successful NTAG203 product range. The industry's best-known all-purpose NFC tag, the SMARTRAC BullsEye, and its close relatives Midas and Circus are now available with the new NXP NTAG213 chip equipped with 144 bytes user memory with password protection. The new chip also features unique ID (UID) mirror functionality, which enables the IC's serial number to be mirrored as part of its encoded URL address. Thus, from an application perspective, every tag can be identified as unique without requiring that users encode tags with variable numbers. As a world premiere, SMARTRAC's BullsEye NTAG213 all purpose NFC tag comes with an etched NFC Forum N-Mark in the tag's center. This feature simplifies the use of the product as it can be placed directly on top of the printed materials providing easy recognition. Due to their smaller foot Midas and Circus NTAG213 NFC tags are characterized by superior performance - compared to other tags of the same size - but do not carry the N-Mark logo. Circus' antenna has been reduced to 20mm in diameter retaining the performance of its 23mm predecessor. Midas is SMARTRAC's smallest NFC inlay for electronics market carrying the new NXP NTAG213 chip's full feature set. All products of the new NTAG213 product line are available in sampling volumes as of now. Volume deliveries will start in March 2014.
SMARTRAC N.V. Launches SMART COSMOS
Feb 18 14
SMARTRAC has established the platform SMART COSMOS, where system integrators, app developers and, of course, users of RFID and NFC technologies can participate for their benefit. By adding a secure link, Tag Identification Credentials and supplementary data as an integral part of its product offering, customers will be enabled to connect objects to the digital world by linking the cloud based tag credentials to the description of their belongings or company assets. Based on this digital standard, customers and developer communities will have access to a multitude of potential applications for authentication, verification, identification and tracking of goods. Marketers will make use of the platform SMART COSMOS to connect products and customers can create and provide a unique and truly personalized consumer experience. RFID tags, SMARTRAC adds well over one and a half billion datasets per year to this platform, which will become an open standard and the biggest repository of object ID's worldwide. To facilitate RFID adoption for end users and to give industry partners the chance to choose from various tag suppliers, other RFID companies and market partners are invited to join SMART COSMOS. To make sure tags also comply with current IP regulations, a security certification procedure will be established.
SMARTRAC customers will be able to link their data to their own IT and ERP systems and to third party applications. SMARTRAC itself will also provide a growing set of applications, starting with applications for license compliance verification (e.g. 'Round Rock Scheme') and authentication of electronic components of the tag as an anti-counterfeit/anti-cloning measure.
RFID Research Center Certifies SMARTRAC's UCODE 7 Based RFID Tags Are Fit for Global Use
Feb 18 14
SMARTRAC's RFID tags using the new UCODE 7 IC developed by NXP have passed the Arkansas Radio Compliance (ARC) tests defined by the RFID Research Center at the University of Arkansas. These tests certify that the upcoming Belt and Web RFID tags perform broadband and hence fully comply with ARC categories A, B, C, D, I and K. The new designs offer increased read and write sensitivity, greater backscatter strength, faster writing speed and parallel encoding capabilities. In addition to these advantages the tags offer true global performance for worldwide use in the supply chain. The above-mentioned categories that have been established as minimum RF performance requirements for various item groups and retailers. They are defined by different retail application areas and/or geographical RF frequencies. Falling into ARC categories A, B, C, D, I and K, retailers and brand owners can deploy SMARTRAC's innovative RFID products for apparel globally, as they comply with frequency regulations set up in US (FCC), EU (ETSI) and Asia. This minimizes the amount of different inlays required for different market areas around the globe. SMARTRAC is among the first inlay manufacturers to have real broadband tag designs available.
