Chelsio Communications, Inc. Key Developments

Chelsio Communications Launches New Product Offering, Terminator Core

Chelsio Communications announced that it has launched a new product offering, the Terminator Core, a configurable kit for building high performance Converged Ethernet solutions. The Chelsio Terminator Core IP is built around a configurable, high performance Ethernet packet processing engine with RDMA, iSCSI, FCoE, and advanced server networking features, and leverages a full suite of software, in-boxed within the major server operating systems. A highly efficient and scalable design, Terminator Core is suitable for a wide range of System-on-a-Chip (SoC) network connectivity solutions, with multi-port support from 1 to 100Gbps. At the heart of the Terminator line of field proven Network Interface Card (NIC) controllers, Chelsio's Core architecture is designed for low latency, high capacity cut-through processing, minimum cycles per byte (CPB) and maximum memory efficiency. Terminator Core is the culmination of more than a decade of expertise with high performance network protocol implementation, and five generations of silicon proven design. Terminator Core offers support for a complete suite of storage and high performance computing networking protocols. Integrating the Core within an SoC design provides a drop-in server grade network-managed and hyper-virtualized Ethernet controller with a complete protocol stack. The Core can also be configured with an embedded edge switch capable of flexible packet switching and replication, with access control support, and an integrated ccNUMA controller that extends cache coherence to multiple nodes. The Terminator Core architecture can attach using a single ACE or PCI interface on the system bus side, and one or more ports on the network side. With a proven firmware and software stack that can operate on an ARM, Power or other embedded CPU based SoC system, the Core can be configured to support a comprehensive set of offload networking, storage and compute protocols, including a complete list of stateless offloads: Large Send Offload (LSO) and Large Receive Offload (LRO). Checksum offloads for TCP/UDP over IPv4/IPv6. CRC offloads for RDMA, FCoE and iSCSI. Load balancing -- RSS. Drop/Steer filters and NAT offload. NVGRE/VXLAN/GENEVE offload. Timestamping, routing, tracing. The Core can also be configured to support one or more of the stateful offloads: iSCSI -- PDU and full offload with T10-DIX. FCoE -- PDU and full offload with T10-DIX. iWARP RDMA over Ethernet. TCP/IP and UDP/IP sockets.

Chelsio Communications, Inc.'s RDMA over Ethernet Solution to Operate in Microsoft's Cloud Platform System

Chelsio Communications announced that the Chelsio T5 Adapters RDMA over Ethernet solution will operate in Microsoft's Cloud Platform System (CPS). The Microsoft CPS solution is an integrated software and hardware solution enabling customers operate a scalable cloud built using experiences from Azure. The CPS networking infrastructure is comprised of an Ethernet based frontend fabric and an RDMA enabled storage backend fabric, which utilizes the SMB Direct protocol for high efficiency, high performance storage networking. The SMB Direct protocol enables high throughput, low latency and high efficiency storage, and unprecedented performance in virtual machine mobility. Native system software support for iWARP RDMA in Windows Server 2012 R2 simplifies storage and Virtual Machines management for IT administrators, with no network reconfiguration required. iWARP is the open IETF standard for RDMA that enables Ethernet networks to achieve high bandwidth, low latency and high efficiency communications. Built upon the solid and ubiquitous TCP/IP foundation, iWARP RDMA uniquely combines the key requirements of routability, reliability and congestion control which allow it to operate over any standard Ethernet infrastructure, from clusters to wide area networks and clouds. Therefore, a CPS installation based on iWARP RDMA can easily scale, using any type of Ethernet switch, with the traditional ease of use that is expected from a TCP/IP based installation. Chelsio's T5 adapters selected for Microsoft's solution are based upon the fifth generation of its high performance Terminator ASIC architecture. They are RDMA-capable Unified Wire adapters that simultaneously offload iSCSI, FCoE, RDMA and sockets applications, along with traffic management and QoS. The T5 based adapters, designed for data, storage and high performance clustering applications, are available with iWARP RDMA.

NEC Corporation Selects Chelsio Communications, Inc.'s Adapters For Vector Supercomputer

Chelsio Communications, Inc. announced that its T4 based 10GbE adapters have been selected by NEC Corporation for NEC's HPC Systems for network and storage connectivity in SX-ACE, the latest SX-series Vector Supercomputer, targeted at large data processing applications. Equipped with the Chelsio T420-CR Storage Adapter, the NEC SX-ACE enables customers to achieve unprecedented levels of performance and efficiency for scientific computing applications such as weather forecasting, climate studies, fluid dynamics and material science simulations. Chelsio's T4 and T5 based 10GbE adapters are designed for converged storage, server and cluster networking solutions. The Terminator Unified Wire Engine combines high performance protocol offload with advanced security, reliability, traffic management and QoS capabilities. NEC HPC's SX-ACE combines NEC HPC's system software with symmetric multi-processing and the latest networking and storage hardware innovations including 10GbE connectivity, a 64b multi-core vector processor and 64GB of memory per node to deliver unprecedented performance and efficiency levels. With 256 GFlops per node, one tenth the power consumption and one fifth the floor space of previous generations, the NEC HPC SX-ACE Vector Supercomputer dramatically raises the bar for computational and space efficiencies. Chelsio's Terminator 4 is a hyper-virtualized protocol offload engine, a proprietary fourth generation ASIC that supports a complete suite of storage and networking protocols, with unique security, traffic management and QoS capabilities. T4 based adapters transform standard Ethernet into a robust, reliable, high-speed Unified Wire fabric that enables simultaneous support for storage and compute network applications that traditionally required different fabrics such as FibreChannel or InfiniBand.
