Bi-Lo Holdings and Delhaize America Announce the Close of 13 Stores

Bi-Lo Holdings, LLC announced the difficult but necessary decision to close eight of the acquired Delhaize America and five Bi-Lo Holdings stores due to close geographic proximity. Both companies announced that they have received approval from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to proceed with the transaction to acquire the Sweetbay, Harveys and Reid's supermarket chains from Delhaize Group pending the divestiture of 12 stores by Bi-Lo Holdings and Delhaize Group retaining two stores and converting them to the Food Lion banner. The FTC's approval is pursuant to a consent order accepted by the FTC for public comment on February 25, 2014. The order is subject to final approval by the FTC after the close of a 30-day comment period.

Delhaize America, LLC announced that it is planning to cut 116 jobs from its Green Cove Springs distribution center. The layoffs will happen Feb. 9 next year.

Roland Smith Resigns as CEO of Delhaize America

Delhaize Group announced that Roland Smith is resigning on September 4, 2013 from his role as CEO of Delhaize America but will be available as a senior advisor to the CEO until the end of the year. Following Mr. Smith's departure, the company's U.S. operations will report to the Delhaize Group CEO.
