DigitalPersona, Inc. announced that its DigitalPersona Pro with U.are.U 4500 Fingerprint Readers solution has been implemented to authenticate employee identities at Workers' Credit Union. With 15 branches across North Central Massachusetts, WCU's 240 employees now use DigitalPersona biometrics-based technology to confirm positive identity when accessing online applications and websites. WCU selected the DigitalPersona solution to increase its security, eliminate password resets and improve employee workflow. This biometrics-based solution is ideal for credit unions and community banks that currently require password-based authentication to access financial information. Passwords can be shared, creating the potential for fraud. They can also be stored on paper and left in the open for others to misuse. If an employee misplaces or forgets their password -- which commonly occurs since passwords must be long and changed frequently to meet industry security standards -- calls for password resets distract IT personnel from more critical business-driven activities. WCU considered software to automate password resets, but ultimately determined that implementing biometrics-based technology would be easier for both its employees and back office administrative staff. With the DigitalPersona solution, WCU employees simply touch the fingerprint reader to gain access to online applications and websites. Since fingerprints are uniquely tied to each individual and cannot be shared, lost or misplaced, WCU has a more secure way to confirm positive identity and improve its workflow. Using just their fingerprint to access dual login screens especially speeds employee productivity. WCU employees have recovered two to 3% of their time that used to be lost to remembering and keying in passwords. In turn, the credit union's IT help desk has gained two to 3% of its time back since they no longer have to contend with password resets. DigitalPersona's biometrics-based solution has also helped streamline WCU's member services. Members no longer have to wait for the help desk to reissue an employee's password before receiving assistance.
New Look Selects Point-of-Sale System Enabled with DigitalPersona(R) Fingerprint Technology

DigitalPersona, Inc. announced that New Look has selected a Point-of-Sale (POS) system enabled with DigitalPersona(R) fingerprint technology. After a successful trial at six of the retailer's stores in February 2014, New Look is set to expand their use of biometrics in 16 of its stores by the end of 2014 with longer-range plans to equip 100 stores by 2017. The company initially selected biometric technology as an alternative to passwords for improving time and attendance accuracy, but found it also enhances loss prevention and customer service. Each new look store has two to four POS terminals depending on the store size, which are shared by the retailer's employees. In the past, the potential for employees to clock in for each other existed, increasing the risk of payroll fraud. Prior to adopting fingerprint biometrics, New Look implemented six-digit passwords to enhance security. However, passwords were cumbersome for employees to remember and had to be changed every 90 days to meet security standards.

DigitalPersona, Inc. announced that Toplink Pacific Pte. Ltd. has selected the DigitalPersona TouchChip TCS1 sensor for its BLUEFiN mobile fingerprint scanner. The BLUEFiN scanner uses Bluetooth(R) technology for a wide range of mobile applications, including customer authentication for mobile commerce transactions, medical patient identification, single sign-on to computer networks, biometrics to identify social welfare disbursement, as well as a wide range of law enforcement applications including border control and criminal identification. Toplink Pacific chose the TCS1 sensor because it offers FIPS 201/PIV certification and a large sensor surface with ample room for complete and high-quality capture of fingerprint images. The sensor surface measures 18 mm x 12.8 mm and offers superb image quality (256 x 360 pixel and 508 dpi). In addition to mobile ID, the DigitalPersona TouchChip TCS1 sensor has been designed for applications such as logical and physical access control, patient ID, government employee verification and other security-driven applications where fast capture and excellent biometric performance are top priorities.
