The company was formerly known as Hercules Powder Company and changed its name to Hercules Incorporated in 1966. The company was founded in 1882 and is based in Wilmington, Delaware. As of November 13, 2008, Hercules Incorporated operates as a subsidiary of Ashland Inc.
