Jin-Magic and Ubiquisys Join Forces to Improve Small Cell Performance

Jin-Magic, Inc. and Ubiquisys Ltd. announced that the two companies are working together to improve the performance and quality of experience of small cells. By dynamically optimizing TCP traffic from within heavily-loaded small cells, capacity to service simultaneous TCP sessions can be increased multiple times to improve quality of experience in a fair and democratic way. Ubiquisys metrocells provide coverage and capacity in capacity hotspots over 3G, LTE and WiFi interfaces. With the inexorable growth in mobile data usage, any one of these air interfaces, as well as the backhaul IP connection, can regularly run at close to their full capacity. Without intelligent data flow management, this inevitably leads to a TCP tug-of-war, with inefficient sharing of resources between users and technologies, additional network signaling traffic and an erratic user experience. The solution consists of Jin-Magic optimization software running on a Ubiquisys smart cell - an intelligent small cell hotspot with an integrated computing platform based on Intel(R) architecture. By monitoring all of the TCP/IP traffic as it passes through the cell, Jin-Magic software balances and stabilizes individual TCP sessions without making any changes to packets, data, or protocol. The patented software is capable of maximizing bandwidth utilization of the end-to-end network and enables fair sharing of the available bandwidth among the users. This gives an improvement across both the backhaul and each of the licensed or unlicensed air interfaces, greatly adding to the usable cell capacity and delivering a robustly consistent quality of experience for all users. Ubiquisys smart cell partners can also take advantage of the software to implement customized QOS policies. It can also be used to continuously monitor and analyze the network condition at the TCP session level.
Saguna Networks and Ubiquisys Partner to Provide Content and Application Acceleration for Small Cells

Saguna Networks and Ubiquisys announced that the two companies are cooperating to provide an integrated content and application acceleration offering based on small cells for mobile network operators. The joint solution combines Saguna Networks' Saguna CODS(TM) for optimizing the delivery of content and applications over mobile networks with Ubiquisys' smart cell, a range of intelligent 3G/4G/WiFi small cell hotspots with an integrated computing platform based on Intel(R) architecture. The joint solution features transparent popular content caching and DNS caching on the Ubiquisys smart cell, which supports all existing mobile network capabilities, including lawful interception, real-time charging, policy management and more. The solution embeds cloud content and flexible application processing resources at the edge of the mobile network to improve user experience and mobile network economics. The application is distributed and remotely provisioned on smart cells through the Intel AppUp(R) SMB Service, which is built on the Intel Hybrid Cloud software platform that enables service providers to deliver the benefits of cloud computing on distributed networked devices.

Ubiquisys Ltd. announced that its GM7 multi-mode cell for indoor public spaces has been selected for deployment in some of the world's most significant small cell programmes. The new cell, which supports LTE, 3G-HSPA+ and WiFi, is specifically designed for use in a wide range of public spaces such as stores, malls, and transport hubs. The GM7 features ActiveCell(R) high-availability software with 99.999% uptime proven at thousands of indoor metro sites in South Korea and Japan. Carriers have been actively shifting their focus towards indoor public access small cells and away from outdoor models, where they face significant deployment challenges surrounding site acquisition, backhaul and power. This is unsurprising, as more than 70% of mobile data is consumed indoors, where there is an abundance of IP backhaul, power and motivated site owners. Indoor small cells also provide maximum re-use of valuable spectrum assets and a stronger signal for mobile users. The Ubiquisys GM7 uses Texas Instruments' high performance TMS320TCI6614 chipset solution providing simultaneous LTE and 3G-HSPA, which Ubiquisys ActiveCell(R) software can dynamically balance according to demand. The underlying KeyStone architecture reflects TI's long experience as a leader in base station infrastructure, with specific features designed to handle the hundreds of data users these cells will serve. These include specific hardware acceleration for Layer2, including queuing engines and powerful Direct Memory Access (DMA), separate Layer3 processing and a dedicated network processing engine to handle complex backhaul packet processing.
