Orange & Rockland Utilities Inc. Plans $10 Million Middletown Gas Main Project
Apr 10 13
Orange & Rockland Utilities Inc. announced that it is planning to invest $10 million to install two sets of natural gas mains one set constructed of 12-inch diameter steel and one set of 8-inch diameter high-density plastic in a single trench running about four miles within the Towns of Wawayanda and Wallkill, and the City of Middletown. Plans call for construction to begin later this month and to be completed by the end of the summer in 2014.
Installing the approximately 20,000 feet of plastic gas main will enhance gas service reliability by providing another connection point between two separate parts of the gas system in that area. The approximately 20,000 feet of steel main that will be installed in the same trench will serve as an alternate gas supply source for the city of Middletown. This project is not connected with the development of the private Competitive Power Ventures Valley Energy Center natural-gas-fired power plant project in this area.
