Corindus Vascular Robotics announced the recent installations of its CorPath(R) System at five facilities: UH Case Medical Center, Cleveland, OH; Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, Richmond, VA; Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, Miami, FL; the second system in Michigan and first system in North Carolina. In addition, Corindus announced that customers used the CorPath System in a record number of cases in the quarter ending June 2014, the third straight quarter of record-setting utilization. The consistent increase in utilization demonstrates that customers continue to make CorPath the standard of care for PCI. Corindus' CorPath System is the first FDA-cleared medical device to bring robotic-assisted precision and accuracy to coronary angioplasty procedures. During a CorPath Robotic Angioplasty procedure, the interventional cardiologist sits in the radiation shielded interventional cockpit, and advances stents and guidewires with millimeter by millimeter precision. Robotic angioplasty may improve stent placement which can reduce repeat procedures. The CorPath System also reduces physician radiation exposure during procedures by 95%.

Corindus Vascular Robotics announced the PRECISION Registry, an ongoing study aimed at collecting data on the patterns of use, safety and effectiveness in the delivery and manipulation of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) devices. Dr. Giora Weisz, Associate Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, will lead the study. Corindus' CorPath 200 System is the first and only FDA-cleared technology that enables precise, robotic-assisted angioplasties to open arteries and restore blood flow in patients with coronary artery disease. During a CorPath angioplasty procedure, the interventional cardiologist sits in the radiation shielded interventional cockpit. Using robotic precision, the interventional cardiologist advances stents and guidewires via a joystick with millimeter by millimeter precision. CorPath may improve clinical outcomes by enabling precise measurement of the anatomy, which could potentially lead to better stent placements.

Philips Healthcare may invest in Corindus, Inc. Arnaud Bernaert, Senior Vice President in business development, strategy and M&A of Philips, said, "We're definitely committed to invest in the company in later stages, so we can collect more clinical data and build a distribution channel. This is the first time that we're marketing a product with disposable material, and later, we may want to cooperate with other companies that sell such products, so that our distributors will 'improve' in this area, and we can build a distribution channel for disposables."
