US Air Force Institute of Technology Signs Agreement with Locata on New GPS Technology Development

Air Force Institute of Technology has signed a Co-operative Research & Development Agreement with Locata Corporation to build and demonstrate new Locata technology for use in GPS receivers. This cooperation is expected to leverage many years of proprietary Locata ground-based positioning technology development to bring completely new capabilities to satellite-based GPS receivers. The CRADA is specifically directed to evaluate Locata's patented Vray(TM) switching antenna and new correlator technologies for multipath mitigation in position receivers that run at GPS frequencies. Locata engineers are transferring to AFIT the knowledge and experience they have gained with existing commercial Vray systems. This will allow AFIT researchers and engineers to familiarize themselves with the new antenna's characteristics, and provide AFIT with an essential platform to develop GPS-specific versions of Locata's correlator and switching algorithms. AFIT will first design and build a GPS-frequency multi-element switching antenna prototype that is based on Locata Vray patents. When built, AFIT intends to use their GPS receiver and this prototype Vray to physically demonstrate the feasibility of using Locata technology to improve GPS receiver performance.
TMC Design to Integrate Locata's Non-GPS Based Positioning System for USAF on White Sands Missile Range

Locata Corporation announced that the US Air Force 746(th) Test Squadron (746 TS) recently awarded New Mexico based TMC Design Corporation a contract to install and integrate the Locata Non--GPS Based Positioning System (NGBPS) on White Sands Missile Range (WSMR). TMC Design is a Locata Technology Integrator (LTI) that has been certified by Locata to build and install military systems in the U.S. Under this contract, TMC Design will design, integrate, install and test the NGBPS system to provide the 746 TS with highly accurate "truth data" covering a large proportion of WSMR. The Locata system will give the 746 TS an entirely new and enhanced capability, allowing them to evaluate the operations of mobile and airborne position, navigation, and timing (PNT) equipment in GPS--denied environments. The operational installation of the NGBPS system will consist of both fixed and mobile Command and Control (C2) nodes, and a network of LocataLite transceivers deployed on WSMR. The Locata NGBPS system is capable of operating in combination with GPS, or completely independent of GPS, depending on 746 TS mission requirements. As the GPS Test Center of Expertise and DoD's lead test organization for evaluating GPS user equipment and GPS-based guidance and navigation systems, the 746 TS recognizes the NGBPS as a critical component for the realization of the squadron's new Ultra-High Accuracy Reference System for the increasingly demanding test and evaluation of future navigation systems for the U.S. Department of Defense.
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Plans to Install Locata Network as the Core Positioning Technology

Locata Corporation announced that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) plans to install a Locata network as the core positioning technology in a $30 million upgrade soon to be under way at their famed Vehicle Research Center (VRC) near Washington DC. A LocataNet will provide the vitally important high-precision positioning required by the VRC to perform rigorous, consistent and repeatable scientific evaluation of new vehicle crash avoidance systems.
