Shaw Industries to Invest $100 Million to Expand Distribution Capacity and Extrusion Operations in Northwest Georgia
Sep 18 13
Shaw Industries Group, Inc. is investing $100 million to streamline its distribution network and expand its fiber extrusion facility in Northwest Georgia. These investments will expand capacity for projected growth, add approximately 175 jobs and improve service to its customers. This follows Shaw's recent announcement of plans to invest $85 million to build a carpet tile manufacturing plant in Adairsville, Ga. that will employee 500 associates, and the company's opening of a carpet tile facility in Nantong, China, to serve Asia. The distribution network upgrades will include constructing an additional 535,000 square feet of warehouse space in Dalton as well as consolidating shipping points for both carpet and hard surface flooring in other distribution centers in Northwest Georgia. When completed, hard surface distribution will be consolidated into one central location with an additional 70% capacity. Construction at Shaw Plant 34 in Whitfield County will begin this fall, and the planned changes in efficiency and capacity for both hard surface and carpet distribution will be complete by the end of 2015. During the consolidation phase, some associates will shift to new roles and new locations. Over the next five years, Shaw expects to add 110 associates in these facilities. The new jobs created in this expansion will be filled on a rolling basis as equipment comes online beginning in October 2013.
Shaw Industries Opens Manufacturing Plant in China to Serve Asia
Sep 13 13
Shaw Industries Group, Inc. announced its grand opening of a 210,000-square-foot (20,000-square-meter) carpet tile plant in Nantong, China -- a port city 65 miles (105 kilometers) north of Shanghai. This facility offers customers in Asia quicker access to a wider range of completely recyclable, Cradle-to-Cradle-certified products, which are PVC-free and bitumen-free. Expected to employ approximately 250 at full capacity, over 100 Shaw associates are onboard at this time. The 24"x24" (61 cm x 61 cm) and 18"x36" (45.7 cm x 91.4 cm) products are being designed in Cartersville, Ga., for global markets, utilizing the successful Eco Solution Q fiber, EcoWorx backing systems, and Ecologix carpet cushioning systems. Products manufactured in China will be sold for installation in the growing Asia market and there are no plans to export them back to the U.S. This plant opening represents Shaw's latest efforts to expand its Asia market presence, which includes showrooms or sales teams in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangalore and New Delhi. The Nantong facility is pursuing ISO 9001 and 14000 certifications and was constructed to LEED Gold standards for New Construction (certification pending review). The China facility grand opening follows Shaw's recent announcement to open a new carpet manufacturing facility in Adairsville, Ga., to support the growth in its carpet tile business.
