These resulted in lower underlying revenue and headline operating profit in the first quarter.

Customs and Border Protection Plans $6 Million Award to Smiths Detection for Portal System

Customs and Border Protection plans to award Smiths Detection about $6.2 million under the Container Security Initiative for an upgraded scanning system that will consist of a medium-energy CAB 2000 MA Portal System, server, software, optical character reading cameras, license plate reader system, lighting and processors, network hardware, traffic control devices, and training. The contract is being awarded to expedite the life-cycle replacement of two CAB 2000 systems deployed at Pakistan's Port Qasim under the CSI. Under the initiative, CBP scans outbound cargo headed to the U.S. from the port. Each CAB 2000 MA system consists of two units valued at $2.8 million each with an additional cost of about $660,000 for the required spares kits.
