Jersey Central Power & Light Company Key Developments

JCP&L Names Dennis Pavagadhi Director of Operations Support

Jersey Central Power & Light promoted Dennis Pavagadhi to director of Operations Support, reporting to vice president of Operations, Anthony Hurley. In his new position, Pavagadhi will be responsible for overseeing JCP&L's 318 substations, including upgrades, maintenance and construction. He also will direct the company's regional dispatch operations centers, which quickly direct line crews to outage locations and coordinate the restoration process. Jersey Central Power & Light Company Plans to Invest $251 Million to Expand Infrastructure

Jersey Central Power & Light Company has announced that it plans to invest an additional $251 million in 2014 to expand its infrastructure to enhance and maintain service reliability throughout its 13 county service area. This represents about a $50 million increase compared to what the company spent on reliability infrastructure in the region last year. Major projects scheduled for this year include completing and planning the construction of transmission lines in Monmouth, Ocean and Morris counties, completing a smart grid modernization project in Morris County and constructing a new substation in Hunterdon County. The company is also scheduled to upgrade 118 circuits, add new circuits, inspect and replace utility poles and perform tree trimming work on more than 3,400 miles of distribution and transmission lines.

Jersey Central Power & Light to Announce Agreement with Union

Jersey Central Power & Light announced an agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 102 to expand the number of electricians available immediately following large-scale power outages, like the one caused by Hurricane Sandy. After the October storm, the company had more than 8,600 line workers on the ground restoring power to affected areas. It proved insufficient, and the state's second large utility was criticized for delayed restoration efforts and the failure to provide updated information on progress. Adding to customers' frustration, some of the outside work crews hired reported getting turned away because they weren't union members. The company employees are members of the IBEW system.
