Rabobank Not To Sell Indonesian Subsidiary

Coöperatieve Centrale Raiffeisen-Boerenleenbank B.A. has withdrawn its plans to sell PT Bank Rabobank International Indonesia after local regulators imposed tighter restrictions on overseas bank acquisitions. Rabobank said that it will keep the Indonesian bank after considering options including a sale. The bank stopped the process after Indonesian regulators imposed ownership thresholds on bank deals following DBS's $6.8 billion takeover attempt of Bank Danamon Indonesia, according to a person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. “The Indonesian markets provide Rabobank with enough opportunities for further growth in the Asian region,” Roelina Bolding, Spokeswoman for Rabobank, said.

Rabobank Confirms Plans To Sell Indonesian Unit

Coöperatieve Centrale Raiffeisen-Boerenleenbank B.A. (Rabobank) confirmed its intention to sell of PT Bank Rabobank International Indonesia. Rabobank is looking out for strategic investor which will purchase stake in Rabobank International Indonesia. "Our bank in Indonesia is not suitable with this focus, since the bank's business activities are more towards the combination of non-food and agribusiness segments and the small, medium and commercial enterprises segments," said Adrie Zwanenberg, Head of Investor Relations at Rabobank.

Companies Reportedly Eyes Indonesian Unit Of Rabobank

China Construction Bank Corporation and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation intend to acquire PT Bank Rabobank International Indonesia from Coöperatieve Centrale Raiffeisen-Boerenleenbank B.A. (Rabobank), people with knowledge of the deal said this week. A deal could worth as much as $400 million. One of the source said that banks from Australia to the Middle East to Canada have been taking a look at the unit and it’s not clear how many remain in the bidding process. Rabobank is short-listing bidders, the people said. Rabobank management is considering "all strategic options" for its Indonesia division, a spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal late January 6, 2013.
