Facebook began the construction of this new data center with the goal of creating a more energy efficient computing infrastructure at a relatively low cost. Facebook’s new data centers were designed and engineered to be some of the most energy efficient and economically sound systems available. Facebook’s engineering team required a custom designed power system and back up generators that could handle the unique demands of their massive server loads.
