Bayer CropScience AG Announces New Integrated R&D Site in West Sacramento, California

Bayer CropScience AG announced the official inauguration of the company's new integrated R&D site in West Sacramento, California. The company is investing heavily in R&D infrastructure such as laboratories, greenhouses and breeding stations as well as new production capacities and seed processing facilities. The investment into this facility creates an environment where its researchers and experts can find the best possible conditions to discover solutions that growers across the globe can depend on to produce high-quality food in a sustainable manner. The new West Sacramento site, which also serves as the global headquarters of Bayer CropScience s Biologics Business, has the capacity to house up to 300 employees. The approximately $80 million facility is situated on 10 acres of land and features a 100,000-square-foot building and a 35,000-square-foot pilot plant to support research and development of biological crop protection products, as well as a 30,000-square-foot Vegetable Seeds research building. The facility will also include a 2,000-square-foot greenhouse and five acres of nearby land for future greenhouse space. In addition to building its R&D network in the United States, Bayer CropScience is also investing significantly in the production capacities of its crop.
Bayer CropScience Settles Serenade-Related Litigation with Bion Tech

Bayer CropScience and Bion Tech have settled a patent infringement case in Korea. Under the settlement, Bayer CropScience granted Bion Tech a royalty-bearing license to sell lipopeptide-containing products based on Bion Tech's proprietary Bacillus subtilis Y1336 strain. Bion Tech's strain Y1336 produces agrastatin, which is covered by claims related to lipopeptides in Bayer CropScience's patent portfolio. These lipopeptides contribute to the unique properties of Bayer's Serenade products. The license extends to various countries, with a focus on Asia. Financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Effective August 1, 2014 Dr. Adrian Percy, currently Senior Vice President of Global Regulatory Affairs within Bayer CropScience will take over the position as Global Head of Research & Development (R&D). In his new role, Dr. Percy will also become member of the Bayer CropScience executive Committee. Currently Adrian Percy (49) has responsibility for regulatory activities across the Bayer CropScience technology platforms, including Seeds & Traits, Crop Protection and Environmental Science globally. David Nicholson, currently Head of R&D has decided to leave the company to pursue other career opportunities outside of Bayer, effective July 31, 2014.
