Winn-Dixie Plans to Close Stores; Plans to Open New Stores

Winn-Dixie is planning to close two Birmingham area grocery stores on or before Nov. 19, 2014. The company said Bi-Lo Holding has decided to close the doors to its Hueytown store at 104 River Square Plaza and the Center Point location at 2402 Old Springville Road. This brings the total of Winn-Dixie closings in Alabama to five. Winn-Dixie will also close locations at 4035 East Blvd. in Montgomery, 2055 Coliseum Blvd. in Montgomery and 1300 Gilmer Ave. in Tallassee. Winn-Dixie is closing the doors to some of its Alabama stores, it is currently remodeling its existing locations and plans to open more grocery stores before the end of the year. Trussville store at 465 Main Street, the 3925 Cross Haven Drive location in Vestavia Hills and the 3331 Rainbow Drive location in Rainbow City are all undergoing 'substantial remodels' Additionally, Winn-Dixie plans to open up to 25 new stores during the fourth quarter, including new Alabama sites. Winn-Dixie opened two new stores this year in Birmingham, one at 4476 Montevallo Road and the other at 500.

Bi-Lo Holdings and Winn-Dixie Close Stores

Bi-Lo Holdings closed 23 Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie stores by November 17, 2014. The stores located Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina. Each store has around 65 employees.

Winn-Dixie to Close 3 Palm Beach County Stores

Winn-Dixie plans to close three of its Palm Beach County stores by the end of November. The supermarket is set to close stores at 3131 Forest Hill Blvd. in suburban West Palm Beach; 3700 Broadway in Riviera Beach; and 1225 West 45th St. in Mangonia Park, spokeswoman Mayra Hernandez told the Palm Beach Post. The stores are expected to close by Nov. 19. Each of the three stores employees’ roughly 65 people. Winn-Dixie is working to transfer those employees to other positions at nearby stores.
