LineStream Technologies, Inc. Powers Texas Instruments (TI) Microcontrollers (MCUs) with InstaSPIN-MOTION
Jun 19 14
LineStream Technologies announced that its technology powers the latest Texas Instruments (TI) microcontrollers (MCUs) with InstaSPIN-MOTION ™ advanced motion control technologies. These C2000™ Piccolo™ TMS320F2805xM microcontrollers (MCUs) are equipped with the InstaSPIN-MOTION technology on the read-only memory (ROM) of the chip, which reduces development time from months to minutes. These MCUs are optimized for a variety of three-phase sensored or sensorless motor control applications to control speed and position. Target applications include conveyance systems, automatic doors, CNCs, and servo drive implementations. Major advantages of InstaSPIN-MOTION include reduce motion control design and development time from months to days– a single parameter tunes both position and speed, increase performance (faster settling time and less overshoot), automatic compensation for changing application inertia, (critical for robotics and industrial winder applications), enables designers to construct complex motion trajectories in minutes - quickly building various states of motion (point A to point B) and joining them with state-based logic, optimization - the motion engine calculates the most time-optimal curve between two positions/speeds, F2805xM package can run two motors, significantly reducing the price per axis. Automatic Motor Parameter Identification: The on-chip motor identification ensures that the motor’s parameters are accurate, which is needed for optimal control. Motor parameters listed in data sheets typically vary by +/- 10% from the actual motor values. FAST Software Estimator: Replaces a physical sensor in velocity control applications and can be used as a backup sensor in position or velocity control applications. Automatic torque (current) loop tuning, with option for user adjustments. Field Oriented Control (FOC): This reference design may be used, as-is, or customers may replace it with their own FOC. Identify: Estimates the system inertia (the resistance of an object to rotational acceleration around an axis) and friction in the application. Control: An advanced speed and position controller featuring Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC), which replaces PI control and proactively estimates and compensates for system disturbance, in real-time. A single coefficient is used to tune both position and speed at the same time, and is typically effective across the entire operating range of an application. Move: Generates a motion profile based on starting velocity or position, desired velocity or position, and configured system limitations for acceleration and jerk (the rate of change of acceleration). TI’s new C2000 Piccolo F2805xM MCUs (TMS320F28054M, 52M) are available starting at less than $8 per 1 ku. Piccolo TMS320F2806xM MCUs with InstaSPIN-MOTION are available today, starting at less than $12 per 1 ku. The controlCARD (TMDSCNCD28054MISO) for the C2000 F2805x MCUs is available for $99 and is compatible with the existing DRV8301, DRV8312, and TMDSHVMTRINSPIN kits.
LineStream Technologies and Texas Instruments Incorporated to Launch InstaSPIN-MOTION
Apr 23 13
LineStream Technologies has collaborated with Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) to launch InstaSPIN-MOTION, the performance pinnacle of TI's InstaSPIN family. Powered by LineStream's SpinTAC software, InstaSPIN-MOTION streamlines the design process and improves system performance of motor-controlled products ranging from washing machines to medical robots. InstaSPIN-MOTION will help OEMs accelerate time-to-market, cut design costs, and improve the performance of their products. The comprehensive software solution is embedded on TI's 32-bit C2000 Piccolo microcontrollers (MCUs) and features optimized motion profiling, single-parameter tuning, and a disturbance-rejecting controller. InstaSPIN-MOTION solves several longstanding inefficiencies in motor control design and implementation. The SpinTAC-powered solution enables engineers to define complex motion sequences in minutes and tune their systems with minimal effort--a process that normally takes 10 to 12 weeks. Built upon a platform of sensorless field oriented control (FOC), InstaSPIN-MOTION reduces system costs and improves operation by eliminating the need for a mechanical motor rotor sensor. Once deployed, InstaSPIN-MOTION delivers and sustains optimal motor performance, regardless of speed fluctuations or disturbances. InstaSPIN-MOTION Key Capabilities: easily design and execute complex motion sequences with SpinTAC trajectory planning; smoothly transition between speeds with SpinTAC motion profile generator, which optimizes the profile based on start velocity, desired velocity, and designer-configured system limitations for acceleration and jerk; simplify the design process with SpinTAC single coefficient tuning, which enables developers to quickly and easily optimize system performance; gain insight into system dynamics with SpinTAC inertia identification, which tracks physical parameters that other controllers ignore; improve accuracy and minimize mechanical system duress with SpinTAC controller, which actively estimates and cancels system disturbances in real time; reduce overall system cost by eliminating the need for a mechanical sensor and associated wiring.
