Former Financial Times Group chief Rona Fairhead is to become the first woman boss of the governing body of the BBC. Fairhead, 53, will replace Chris Patten, who quit as chairman of the BBC Trust in May after major heart surgery. Fairhead is also a non-executive director at PepsiCo and HSBC, and was chairwoman and chief executive of the Financial Times Group between 2006 and 2013. She will be tasked with overseeing the broadcaster's attempts to rebuild its reputation.

Nicholas Prettejohn has been appointed to the BBC Trust Member for four years from 1 January 2014. The new Trust Member is also an Independent Director of the Prudential Regulation Authority as well as Chair of the Britten-Pears Foundation and Chairman of the Royal Northern College of Music. Mr. Prettejohn was Director of Strategy at NFC plc, an international transportation company, before joining Lloyds of London in 1995 as Head of Strategy. At Lloyds he became Managing Director of the Business Development Unit, and then Chief Executive between 1999 and 2005. From 2006 - 2009, he was Chief Executive of Prudential UK and Europe. He has held Non-Executive roles at Legal and General and Brit Insurance.
BBC Trust Names Tony Hall as Director General

BBC Trust announced that Tony Hall, chief executive of the Royal Opera House, is to be appointed director-general. Lord Patten, the chairman of the the trust, confirmed Mr. Hall's appointment. Hall served as director of news at the BBC for a decade before taking the Royal Opera post in 2001. He succeeds George Entwistle, who resigned on November 10 after just 54 days as director-general.
