The Providence Journal Company has a new top editor. Karen A. Bordeleau will succeed Thomas E. Heslin as executive editor and senior vice president after Heslin steps down later this month following an extended medical leave. Bordeleau served previously as deputy executive editor and, since June, as acting executive editor. Her appointment is effective April 29, 2013. Heslin is retiring after 41 years in journalism, 32 of them at The Journal.

The Providence Journal Co. Cuts 23 Full-Time Staffers

The Providence Journal Co. announced that it laid off 23 full-time staffers in a cost-cutting move that includes 5% of its workforce. 16 guild employees out of about 200, as well as seven non-union staffers were let go.
