Baystate Health Announces Board Appointments

Baystate Medical Center, Inc. announced Charles E. Cavagnaro III, MD, F.A.C.P., now president and CEO of Wing Memorial Hospital, will be appointed president of Baystate Health's Eastern Region. Dr. Cavagnaro has served as president and CEO of Wing Memorial Hospital and Medical Centers for the past 15 years. Before that, he was Wing's vice president of Medical Affairs. In 2013, Dr. Cavagnaro served as interim president of UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Dr. Cavagnaro is a board-certified primary care internist in Belchertown and sees patients on a weekly basis. He is a Six Sigma and Lean Green Belt in healthcare quality improvement processes. Shafeeq Ahmed, MD, as chief operating officer of Baystate Health's Eastern Region. Prior to his arrival at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital, Dr. Ahmed had served as the President of the Medical Staff, Chief of OB/GYN and a member of the Hospital Board of Directors at the Naval Hospital - Cherry Point in North Carolina. On July 1, 2014 Dr. Mark A. Keroack, MPH, officially became president and chief executive officer of Baystate Health, succeeding Mark R. Tolosky, JD, FACHE, who has served in that role since 2004. It has been ten years since the last transition in the Office of the President & CEO when Tolosky replaced the retiring Michael J. Daly. Prior to joining Baystate Health, Dr. Keroack served on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts for 12 years.

Baystate Health announced that the Chuck Gijanto, the head of Baystate Health’s regional markets who serves as the chief executive officer of Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield and Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware, has resigned. Chuck Gijanto has worked for Baystate since 2008. In his current role, he also oversees Baystate Medical Practices in the network’s northern and eastern regions.
