Paul Klingenstein Joins MacArthur Foundation's Board of Directors, Effective March 2013

Paul Klingenstein, founder and managing partner of Aberdare Ventures, a venture capital firm, has been elected to serve on the MacArthur Foundation Board of Directors. Klingenstein, who has spent most of his career focused on healthcare innovation and young companies, will join the Board in March. Paul brings to the MacArthur Board a rich knowledge of health programs in some of the most challenging places and expertise in investing in the game-changing ideas that will improve that care around the world.

MacArthur Foundation Elects Julie T. Katzman to Serve on its Board of Directors

Julie T. Katzman, Executive Vice President of the Inter-American Development Bank, and Harvard Law School Dean Martha Minow have been elected to serve on the MacArthur Foundation Board of Directors. Katzman spent the first 20 years of her career in investment banking and private equity before shifting her focus to fighting poverty, while Minow is an expert on human rights and advocacy for disadvantaged populations. Katzman will join the Board in June and Minow will do so in September.

John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Announces Board Changes

Marjorie M. Scardino, Chief Executive Officer of Pearson, was elected to chair the 15-member Board of Directors of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Scardino has served on MacArthur's Board since December 2005 and will begin her new role following the Board's June 2012 meeting. Before joining Pearson, Scardino was Chief Executive of The Economist Group and, prior to that, she was a lawyer and she and her husband founded a weekly newspaper in Georgia that won a Pulitzer Prize in 1984 for its editorial writing. Outgoing MacArthur Board Chair is Robert Denham, a partner in the law firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson.
