Nexeon Ltd Completes Construction and Commissioning of its Process Development and Manufacturing Facility at Oxfordshire
Apr 24 14
Nexeon Ltd. has completed the construction and commissioning of its process development and manufacturing facility at its headquarters in Oxfordshire. Nexeon is developing silicon anode technology for the next generation of lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries. Silicon anodes offer benefits over conventional carbon anodes as they enable the development of lithium-ion cells with greater energy density. Nexeon has established a growing portfolio of patents covering materials and fabrication processes. The company's new manufacturing plant is capable of producing over 20 tones of product a year, and has been built to handle a wide range of materials and reagents. In addition to the manufacturing capability, the new facility includes integrated laboratories for Process Development and Material Characterization.
Nexeon Appoints Tsuyonobu Hatazawa as its Chief Technology Officer; Opens Office in Tokyo, Japan
Aug 6 13
Nexeon has appointed Tsuyonobu Hatazawa as Chief Technology Officer. Hatazawa-san joins the company from Sony, where he pioneered the development of a range of battery technologies including gel electrolytes and polymer Li-ion batteries. Hatazawa-san brings with him more than 30 years' experience in materials development, much of it in the batteries industry. Prior to working at Sony, he worked on optical films and polymer materials for displays at Sekisui Chemical Company. Mr. Hatazawa's appointment will see Dr. Bill Macklin move to a different role within the company.
In addition, the company has opened an office in Tokyo, Japan, its first outside the UK, and in close proximity to many potential customers and partners. Hatazawa-san will split his time between the UK and Japanese offices.
Nexeon Ltd. Signs a Strategic Partnership Agreement with Wacker Chemie AG
Feb 22 13
Nexeon Ltd. has signed a strategic partnership agreement with WACKER Chemie AG. The partnership will involve the two companies working together to scale-up the production of Nexeon's silicon anode technology to commercial volumes. WACKER has strong research and chemical process capabilities as well as extensive production expertise in speciality materials and will be able to leverage its engineering and manufacturing expertise to accelerate Nexeon's scale-up plans. Nexeon is developing silicon materials to replace carbon as the anode of lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries. This will lead to the production of rechargeable batteries with higher charge density, enabling consumers to use their devices, such as laptops and smart phones, for longer before needing to recharge them. Stronger battery performance is also key to the wider adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles.
