University of Birmingham Appoints Ian Myatt as Director of Educational Enterprise, Effective August 18, 2014

The University of Birmingham announced that Ian Myatt has been appointed as Director of Educational Enterprise at the University of Birmingham. Mr. Myatt is currently Head of Knowledge and Learning for BBC Online and has significant experience of using digital media technology to forge a closer relationship between content producers and audiences. As Director of Educational Enterprise, Mr. Myatt will lead on a range of initiatives within the area of Alternative Modes of Delivery focusing on three broad areas of activity: identifying ways of exploiting technology and content working with the Centre for Learning and Development, IT Services, External Relations and Colleges; managing strategic relationships both inside the organization and with strategic partners in other sectors; and developing a number of planned initiatives in existing programme areas. He will take up his role at the University on 18 August 2014 and will report to the director of Academic Services.

University of Birmingham Appoints Lord Karan Bilimoria as New Chancellor

The University of Birmingham has appointed Lord Karan Bilimoria as its new chancellor. Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea CBE, the India-born founder of Cobra Beer, will take up his role at an Installation Ceremony in July, making him the seventh university of Birmingham chancellor. He succeeds Sir Dominic Cadbury, who stepped down last December after 11 years in the role. The chancellor acts as the ceremonial figurehead of the university and has an important ambassadorial role, working with the vice-chancellor and the pro-chancellor to raise the university's profile and advance its interests nationally and internationally.

The University of Birmingham Appoints Saul Becke as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Social Sciences

The University of Birmingham announced that Professor Saul Becker has been appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Social Sciences to drive forward Birmingham's ambitious plans to be a global centre for teaching and research across the social sciences. Professor Becker is currently Assistant Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) and Director of Research for the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Nottingham. He will take up his new role in August 2014. Prior to joining the University of Nottingham, Professor Becker held Chairs at the University of Birmingham and Loughborough University.
