As of April 3, 2001, Utility.com was acquired by FirstPoint Energy Corp. Utility.com provides energy and telecommunications services for home and small business customers. The company provides electricity, gas, telephone, Internet access, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and Internet telephony services. In January 2001, Utility.com has cut service to 40,000 customer in California, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts, and will no longer be providing electricity to those states. In February 2001, 22 of 72 employees were laid off. The company was founded in 1998 and is based in Albany, California.
