Colombo Stock Exchange Opens its Sixth Branch Office in Anuradhapura

Colombo Stock Exchange, opened its 6th branch office in Anuradhapura on March 28, 2013. The branch is situated on the Second Floor, Town Hall Place, Maithripala Senanayake Mawatha, Anuradhapura. The Branch would provide investors from the North Central Province, education and investment opportunities in shares and corporate debt listed on the CSE. The Branch would conduct educational programmes and exhibitions for students from schools and higher educational institutions in the Province.

Qatar Holding Reportedly Eyes Stake In CSE, KTZ And CCP

Qatar Holding LLC is interested to acquire a stake in Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), Kalpitiya Tourism Zone (KTZ), Colombo Commercial Property (CCP), and a host of sites in the South for hotel projects, according to official sources. A preparatory team is in Colombo and a group of six including the Deputy CEO of the Qatari Exchange had initial talks at a joint meeting with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the CSE on January 12, 2012 and a separate meeting with the SEC on January 13, a source close to the talks told the Business Times on January 14. The source said the Qatar Holdings will do a feasibility study of the CSE in an effort to invest in a 'sizeable' stake. “But the CSE has to be demutualised and made into a public limited company which is now being fast-tracked. The team wanted to know about the demutualization, about CSE's IT platform, details on the transaction settlement time, legal framework, etc,” the source said.

Colombo Stock Exchange Announces Executive Changes

At the board meeting held on June 14, 2011 Mr. Krishan Balendra was elected as chairman of the Colombo Stock Exchange succeeding Mr. Nihal Fonseka who will continue to be a director. Mr. Balendra has been a director of the CSE since March 7, 2008. Mr. Balendra is President and member of the Group Executive Committee of John Keells Holdings, is responsible for the Retail sector, John Keells Capital, John Keells Stock Brokers and the Corporate Finance and Strategy function of the group.
