Airtel Reportedly In Talks To Sell Bharti Airtel Lanka To Etisalat

Bharti Airtel Limited (BSE:532454) (Airtel) is in advanced discussions to sell off Bharti Airtel Lanka Pvt Ltd. to Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (ADX:ETISALAT), said two persons aware of the development. According to one such person, Standard Chartered Bank is advising Bharti Airtel in the transaction. Bharti Airtel Lanka has been valued between $110 million-$130 million. Airtel said that as a policy it didn’t respond to market speculations. Standard Chartered declined comment while Etisalat could not be reached for comments.
Axiata Reportedly To Acquire Bharti Airtel Lanka

Axiata Group Berhad has reportedly approached Bharti Airtel Limited to acquire Bharti Airtel Lanka Pvt Ltd., people known to the development said. The value of the offer could not be confirmed. Axiata operates as Dialog Axiata Plc in Sri Lanka. People in the know also say Axiata is also believed to have approached Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. to acquire the latter's Sri Lankan operations but the two companies couldn't reach an agreement on the valuation of the business. Hutch and Axiata did not respond to Business Standard queries and a Bharti Airtel spokesperson said, "As a policy, we do not comment on market speculation."
