Wilfrid Laurier University Key Developments
Wilfrid Laurier University has appointed Government Relations Director Brian Rosborough to the new position of Senior Executive Officer of the Brantford campus. Rosborough's five-year term commences July 1, 2013. The Senior Executive Officer reports to the university President and represents his office at the Brantford campus. The role has two core functions: to create opportunities and strategies that advance Laurier's academic mission, and to build strong relationships with the Brantford campus' partners and stakeholders. Rosborough will be a bridge between the university and the City of Brantford, the communities of the surrounding region, and Aboriginal communities including Six Nations and Mississaugas of the New Credit. Additionally, Rosborough will support academic and administrative leaders on the Brantford campus and help strengthen the connection with their colleagues on other campuses, support Laurier's vibrant partnerships with other post-secondary institutions, and seek new avenues to grow and advance Laurier's innovative model of academic excellence. The Senior Executive Officer position replaces the role of Acting Vice-President and Principal of the Brantford campus, which has been held by Lesley Cooper. Cooper's term ends June 30, 2013.
Wilfrid Laurier University announced that it has appointed James Orbinski to the position of CIGI Chair in Global Health, starting September 1, 2012. Dr. Orbinski is a former international president of M decins Sans Fronti res (Doctors Without Borders) who has front-line experience in complex humanitarian emergencies, from Rwanda to Somalia, Zaire and Afghanistan. As head of M decins Sans Fronti res, he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the organization in 1999. In his new role, Dr. Orbinski will be affiliated with Laurier's School of International Policy and Governance, the Health Sciences Program in the Faculty of Science, and the Balsillie School of International Affairs. The latter is a highly regarded partnership involving Laurier, The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), and the University of Waterloo. In addition, Dr. Orbinski will serve as director of the Africa Initiative at CIGI and as senior advisor to CIGI's vice-president of programs. Most recently, Dr. Orbinski was a professor at the University of Toronto Medical School where he served as chair of Global Health at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
