John Crane Inc. Key Developments

John Crane Inc. Reports Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended November 1, 2014; Provides Revenue Guidance for the Fiscal Year 2015

John Crane reported earnings results for the first quarter ended November 1, 2014. For the quarter, the company’s revenues and headline operating profit were broadly similar to last year's first quarter.  Headline operating cash conversion was strong for the first quarter at 94%. John Crane's aftermarket and first-fit rotating equipment business delivered underlying growth in revenue and operating profit in the quarter.  This was offset by year-on-year declines in the upstream energy services business resulting in overall John Crane revenue and profit at a similar level to the same period last year.  The John Crane order book is expected to deliver revenue growth, although as guided at the year end, the growth rate will be below the medium-term operating range in the first half because of the headwinds in the upstream business and some manufacturing constraints affecting the aftermarket and first-fit rotating equipment business.

John Crane Announces Investments in China Manufacturing and Service Facility

John Crane is making significant investments in its Tianjin, China manufacturing and customer service center to continue strengthening customer support capabilities. Investments have been made in manufacturing equipment, service center machines, customer and employee training facilities, and a new research and development (R&D) technology center to meet the growing demand from energy services customers in China. Among the investments are: New advanced machines in the service center to expand aftermarket capabilities; Four new product lines added to the manufacturing operations; A new training center to support customized training for customers and employees; and a new global R&D technology center to bring new technologies and local engineering expertise to the Chinese market.

John Crane Introduces Aura 220 Gas Seal

John Crane introduced the AURA(TM) 220 Gas Seal representing the next-generation of advanced gas seal technology and the first to be unveiled under the brand name AURA. The new technology uses a common global design and patented polymeric sealing device with Active Deflection Control to help customers reduce operating and transaction costs. Additionally, the performance range of the seal has been expanded, improving its performance when operating in high pressure and temperature environments. The AURA(TM) 220 Gas Seal operates in a pressure range up to 220 bar, or 3240 psi, and a temperature range up to 200 degrees Celsius, or 390 degrees Fahrenheit. Several additional technology advances help to cut the total cost of ownership for customers: Reduced leakage lowers customers' operating costs and protects the environment; Enhanced rotor design extends scheduled maintenance periods and lowers costs; Optional bi-directional capability reduces spare inventory requirements. Customers also gain access to localized technical expertise from the global service network in the industry -- more than 230 sales and service facilities across 50 countries. Technical support and troubleshooting from service and reliability engineers is available through the global service network on the widest range of applications in the industry. In addition, the service network has broad capabilities around power transmission couplings, hydrodynamic bearings, filtration and seal support systems.
