Metrolinx Orders with Bombardier for 65 New GO Train Coaches to Support Continued Expansion

In order to enable continued growth and increased ridership across the entire GO Transit network, Metrolinx has placed an order with Bombardier for 65 new GO Train (bi-level) coaches with two options for an additional 75 coaches. The total investment for the order, including options, is $481 million. The Bombardier bi-levels coaches have been used by GO Transit since 1978 and have demonstrated great reliability and comfort for GO Transit customers over their lifetime. The base order of 65 coaches will be delivered between June 2016 and July 2017 and will be manufactured in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Once delivered, GO Transit will have a total of 743 coaches in service allowing GO the capacity and flexibility to add or enhance service across busiest routes.

Metrolinx Continues Progress on Delivering Transit Solutions in Toronto

The Metrolinx Board of Directors has approved the award of the Eglinton Crosstown East Tunnel construction contract from Yonge Street to just east of Brentcliffe Road, signalling another important milestone in larger rapid transit expansion in the City of Toronto's history. This $177 Million contract is the second of the two tunneling contract packages for the Crosstown Project. Aecon Dragados Joint Venture will begin work in late 2013 to construct approximately 3.25 km of twin tunnels using two tunnel boring machines and precast concrete tunnel lining segments supplied by Metrolinx. The twin tunnels are to be constructed as a single pair of drives from a launch shaft located east of Brentcliffe Road to an extraction shaft located east of Yonge Street. The Eglinton Crosstown is a light rail transit line that will run along Eglinton Avenue between Mount Dennis (Weston Road) and Kennedy station. This 19-kilometer corridor will include a 10-kilometer underground portion, between Keele Street and Laird Drive. The Crosstown will have up to 25 stations and stops. It will link to 54 bus routes, three subway stations and various GO Transit lines.
