Pennsylvania State University announced Paul E. Sullivan, 62, as director of the Applied Research Laboratory, effective September 1, 2014. Steven Penrod began his career in 1979 at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant as a systems engineer. Over the last year and in conjunction with his ACP responsibilities, Penrod has managed the safe and orderly wind down of USEC operations in Paducah, including coordination with the Department of Energy on steps leading to an anticipated de-lease and return of the facilities to the DOE on October 1, 2014.

Dr. Neal J. Thomas, professor, pediatrics and public health sciences, was recently appointed as chair of the 20-member Conflict of Interest Review Committee at Penn State Hershey. The panel is responsible for reviewing and managing financial conflict of interest of employees on the Hershey campus. He was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 2005 and professor of pediatrics in 2011.

Pennsylvania State University Athletic Director David M. Joyner announced his plans to retire from the University. He has requested that his duties as athletic director end Aug. 1, and has offered to assist with the transition beyond that date. Penn State President Eric J. Barron will name a search committee to work with Collegiate Sports Associates, an executive search and consulting firm based in North Carolina, to recruit Penn State's next director of Intercollegiate Athletics. David Gray, senior vice president for Finance and Business at Penn State, has agreed to chair the search committee. More information about the search for Penn State's next athletic director will be released in the coming days as potential search committee members are notified and asked to serve.
