Carter Andersen has been elected president of the University of Florida's Law Alumni Council for 2009-2010. Andersen is a shareholder and a member of the commercial litigation dispute resolution practice group at Bush Ross PA, Tampa.

University of Florida announced Groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the Southwest Recreation Center on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville on 8:30 a.m., Aug. 25, 2009. The $16.3 million expansion will include 40,000 square feet of new space, including 15,000 square feet for cardio and strength training and a 2,100-square-foot activity room for group fitness. The second floor of the expansion will have a 1/9-mile track with three lanes. The expansion is expected to be completed by the start of the fall 2010 semester.

University of Florida will hold a ground-breaking ceremony at 9 a.m. on July 13 for a new building to be constructed at UF's Eastside Campus, 2124 Net Waldo Rd. The ceremony is being coordinated by UF's Community Relations and Facilities and Planning offices. Speakers will include President Bernie Machen, as well as Ed Poppell, vice president for business affairs, and Scherwin Henry, District 1 commissioner/mayor pro tem. Following the on-site ceremony, refreshments will be served in the Community Room, which is located in an existing Eastside Campus building. Scheduled for completion in April 2010, the building will serve 600 to 700 employees and will be named at a later date. Originally planned as a four-story, 65,000-square-foot structure, market conditions allowed for an increase to 85,000-square-feet, with no increase in construction costs. The completed structure will be three stories tall and gold-certified according to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
