Governor Mary Fallin has appointed Bill Burgess, Jr., of Lawton, to the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents. Burgess is the chairman of the board at Vortex. He currently serves as civilian aide to the secretary of the Army, as chairman of the Oklahoma Business Roundtable, as a trustee for the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, and vice chair of the Oklahoma Heritage Association.
University of Oklahoma Receives $2.6 Million Grant from United States Department of Transportation

University of Oklahoma will lead the Southern Plains Regional Transportation Center, which is funded by a $2.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The consortium, which includes universities in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico, will focus on regional transportation needs. The group plans to research all aspects of extreme weather on transportation infrastructure from direct impact to innovative materials, winter weather vehicles and multimodal freight movement.
University of Oklahoma Appoints Mark A. White as Interim Director of the Museum

University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren announced that Mark A. White, chief curator of the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, will serve as interim director of the museum, pending approval of the OU Board of Regents. White, whose interim appointment will be effective Sept. 3, will serve while a national search is conducted to fill the post being vacated by Ghislain d'Humi res, who has resigned to become director of the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Ky.
