Cellular Dynamics International Obtains License from Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis

Cellular Dynamics International Inc. announced that it has exclusively in-licensed a US-issued patent portfolio on optimizing the stem cell differentiation selection process and on using heart cells (cardiomyocytes) in drug testing. The license, obtained from Dr. Loren Field and Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis, covers two important concepts for using stem cell-derived cells for drug screening. First, the Field patents cover a cell purification strategy that enables greater than 90% purity of any type of cells. Secondly, the Field patents cover the use of stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes for drug testing.

Indiana University Appoints Robert B. Schnabel as Interim Vice President for Research

Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis announced that Informatics Dean Robert B. Schnabel will serve as interim vice president for research while a search continues to permanently fill the position. Schnabel has served as dean of the IU School of Informatics since July 1, 2007, and he will continue in that role while also assuming the leadership role for pursuing and broadening new opportunities for research activities at Indiana University's eight campuses. The IU Board of Trustees approved the interim appointment during a special meeting at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
