College of William and Mary Appoints Calandra Waters Lake as Director of Sustainability

College of William and Mary announced that the appointment of Calandra Waters Lake as the university's first director of sustainability. This new full-time position replaces the temporary position of sustainability fellow and will report jointly to the Committee on Sustainability and the Office of Strategic Initiatives. Lake will be responsible for promoting the sustainability goals of the College, exploring fundraising opportunities and coordinating sustainability activities across campus between students, faculty, staff and the local community. Lake will also be organizing and monitoring distribution of the Green Fees, a fund all students contribute toward that supports grants awarded each semester to student, faculty, and staff sustainability projects.

College of William & Mary Announces Executive Changes

College of William & Mary announced that Henry Broaddus has been named the university's vice president for strategic initiatives. Broaddus will succeed Jim Golden, who has served as vice president since 2008 and will step down in July 2014. Golden felt the timing was right to make the transition in 2014, but he has agreed to stay at William and Mary in a volunteer role as senior counselor to the president. The appointments will be effective Aug. 1, 2014. As vice president for strategic initiatives, Broaddus will report directly to Reveley and oversee the division that includes the offices of university relations and creative services, economic development and business innovation, and government relations. In addition, the university's Director of Sustainability will report to Broaddus, who will also have responsibility for special projects related to strategic planning, entrepreneurial opportunities, operational efficiency and financial sustainability. In 2010, Broaddus was named associate provost of enrollment, assuming responsibilities for both the admission and financial aid offices in William & Mary.

Governor Announces Appointments to William & Mary Board of Visitors

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced that William H. Payne II, Christopher M. Little and Lisa E. Roday will join Sue H. Gerdelman as appointees to the William & Mary Board of Visitors. Their four-year terms begin July 1, 2014. Payne, communications director for the Virginia Sheriffs' Institute and Virginia Sheriffs' Association; Little, a retired publishing and media executive who served as president of Newsweek; and Roday, a consultant based in the Richmond area who specializes in time management, fundraising and legal issues, have been appointed as new members to the Board. They replace Charles A. Banks III, Edward L. Flippen, J.D. and L. Clifford Schroeder, Sr. Gerdelman has held a number of leadership roles at W&M, including serving as chair of the William & Mary Foundation, and she now has a significant role in the university's philanthropic efforts. In addition to her many leadership roles at William & Mary, Gerdelman has held a number of posts in the community, including current service as chair of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. On the Board, she currently serves as chair of the Committee on Development and is a member on the Executive Committee, the Committee on Athletics and the Richard Bland College Committee.
