Central European Distribution Corp. Announces Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2014

Central European Distribution Corp. announced consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported sales of $140,902,000 against $156,247,000 a year ago. This was primarily due to: impact of foreign exchange translation of $10.7 million, lower Whitehall sales of $11.4 million (net of currency effect), offset by Poland delivering higher net sales of $7.1 million (net of currency effect). Operating income was $3,416,000 against operating loss of $6,595,000 a year ago. Loss before income taxes was $51,334,000 against $76,390,000 a year ago. EBITDA was $5.9 million. Net loss attributable to the company was $51,720,000 against $79,456,000 a year ago. Net cash used in operating activities was $35,235,000 against net cash from operating activities of $9,827,000 a year ago, factoring of accounts receivable in Russia commenced in 2013 resulting in cash brought forward in fourth quarter of 2013 that would normally be collected in 2014, tax cash outflows in first quarter of 2014, mainly excise, settled with the tax office in first quarter of 2014, but incurred at the end of 2013 in relation to increase of inventory levels made in advance of expected excise increase in Poland, Russia and Kazakhstan. Fixed assets, net was $3,325,000 against $2,512,000 a year ago. CEDC's net debt position as of March 31, 2014 of $797.9 million increased by $45.5 million compared to the end of 2013.
