Vivo Participacoes S.A. Key Developments

America Movil May Acquire Tim Brasil

America Movil S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV:AMX L) may acquire Tim Brasil Serviços e Participações S.A. from Telecom Italia S.p.A. (BIT:TIT). Reuters said last week that Movil was in talks with both Oi SA (BOVESPA:OIBR4) and Vivo Participacoes S.A. about mounting a joint offer worth about BRL 30 billion, though the stakes would have to be structured to satisfy regulatory concerns.

Vodafone Looking To Buy One Of Brazil's Top 3 Carriers

Vodafone Group Public Limited Company (LSE:VOD) is said to be considering acquiring one of Brazil's top three mobile carriers, Brazilian paper O Estado de S. Paulo reported. The top three operators are Telefonica's Vivo Participacoes S.A., America Movil's Claro S.A. or Telecom Italia'sTim Brasil Serviços e Participações S.A., which each hold over 20% of the local market. The most likely candidate for a buyout is TIM Brasil, which has been the subject of rumors of a sale by Telecom Italia for several months. According to the reports, Vodafone is not interested in participating in Brazil's mobile telephony sector through the acquisition of 4G licenses in the upcoming 700MHz auction, as expected by the government, but instead through the acquisition of companies.

TIM Participacoes's Sale Reportedly Could Be Valued At €30 Billion

Marco Fossati, shareholder of Telecom Italia S.p.A. (BIT:TIT); has valued TIM Participacoes S.A. (BOVESPA:TIMP3) at up to €30 billion in an analysis prepared in view of reports on the possible sale of the Brazilian unit, La Stampa reported. Fossati submitted the analysis on the value of TIM Brasil ahead of the meeting of Telecom Italia's Board of Directors scheduled for January 16, 2014. The value of the whole TIM Brasil, in which Telecom Italia owns 67%, is well over the possible offer of €12 billion. Reports also added that a consortium involving Telefónica, S.A. (CATS:TEF) is preparing a joint offer which eventually would be divided among Vivo Participacoes S.A., Claro of Carlos Slim and Oi SA (BVMF:OIBR4).
