University of Arkansas and University of Kufa Establish Cooperation Agreement

The University of Arkansas and the University of Kufa in Najaf, Iraq, have established a formal agreement of cooperation that is intended to further the academic objectives of each institution. Under the agreement, the universities will work to develop programs for exchanging academic, research or other educational materials, including research reports, reprints and other publications or unpublished papers. The agreement also calls for the development of programs for the University of Kufa to send students to the University of Arkansas. The universities will also explore opportunities for their respective faculty members, visiting student researchers and administrators to be in residence at the other institution for the purposes of lecturing, conducting research and developing their academic or administrative skills. Also, collaborative programs, seminars and research activities will be encouraged and supported under the agreement.

University of Arkansas Names David Cook as Director of Leadership Academy

Former state Rep. David Cook, a retired educator, was named director of the University of Arkansas' Leadership Academy on January 7, 2014. Cook, from Williford, served three terms in the state House and ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat for Congress in the 1st district in 2010. He also has directed the Northeast Arkansas Educational Service Cooperative and taught graduate courses in educational leadership as an adjunct instructor at Harding University.

University of Arkansas Appoints Laura Jacobs as Vice Chancellor for University Relations, Effective January 27, 2014

University of Arkansas has hired a new vice chancellor for university relations, which is a department of its Advancement Division. Laura Jacobs, who is director of communications for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, will begin her new job at UA on Jan. 27. Jacobs worked in the university relations office from 1998 to 2011, when she took the position at Crystal Bridges. Jacobs replaces John Diamond, who was fired Aug. 23 after a disagreement with his superiors over requests from the media under the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act. Jacobs will oversee an office that is responsible for all university communications and media relations, including social media; marketing and branding of the university; promoting the university's fundraising efforts; supervision of website design and development; the university's design, photography and videography production; and campus wide crisis communications.
