Travelocity to Lay Off 15 Workers at its Southlake Headquarters
Nov 26 13
Travelocity will lay off 15 workers at its Southlake headquarters effective Jan. 24, 2014, the second round of layoffs since September at the travel website. Travelocity notified the Texas Workforce Commission about the layoffs in a notice under the Workers Adjustment and Retraining Act (WARN) requirements. As it did in September, the company hinted that there could be more layoffs coming. Travelocity has said that the layoffs are related to a deal in which many Travelocity job functions will be assumed by its former rival, Expedia Inc.
Travelocity.com LP to Lay Off Workers in Southlake
Sep 23 13
Travelocity.com LP will cut 14 people at its Southlake office by Nov. 15, and additional layoffs could be coming in the next few months, according to a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission. In August, the travel website, which is owned by Sabre Holdings, entered into a long-term marketing agreement with its competitor, Expedia Inc. Through that agreement, Expedia will take over the customer service and technology related roles that Travelocity previously had. Expedia will power Travelocity's websites. Travelocity still will be its own company, but its priorities will shift to more of a marketing company. The layoffs are part of that transition. The Southlake office, at 3150 Sabre Drive, will not be closing. Future layoffs combined with this round would constitute a mass layoff. The employees will get severance pay and will have the opportunity to look for other job opportunities within the company. The 17-year-old company known for using a traveling gnome for its marketing announced in 2012 that it had 100 job openings around the world.
